Tourist tax Terschelling and Vlieland

Tourist tax is levied by the municipalities of Terschelling and Vlieland as asurcharge on your ferry ticket for the first day (without an overnight stay) and on your overnight stays on the island (as a surcharge on the price of your accommodation). Tourist tax is invested in tourist activities and events, maintenance of roads and bicycle paths, clearing up litter, etc. If you wish for further information, you can get in touch with the municipalities of Terschelling or Vlieland.

Rate tourist tax 2025

  • Terschelling (from 12 years): € 2,16
  • Vlieland (from 4 years): € 2,32

The 2025 city tax will be applied to all trips from January 1, 2025 to January 5, 2026.

You are not required to pay tourist tax on the route Terschelling – Vlieland and back again.

  • Vlieland (from 4 years): € 2,58

The 2026 city tax will be applied to all trips from January 1, 2026 to January 4, 2027.

You are not required to pay tourist tax on the route Terschelling – Vlieland and back again.

Reclaiming tourist tax

No tourist tax can be reclaimed on the first day ( surcharge on your ferry ticket). If you are eligible for exemption of tourist tax, because you travel to the island for business purposes, then the provider of your accommodation will not charge you with tourist tax. You should mention this to the provider in advance. Further information can be obtained from either municipality.
